LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say 17 people have been indicted for trafficking drugs in New Mexico's Lincoln and Otero counties.

Federal authorities announced two indictments in the cases Friday after a 10-month undercover investigation.

One indictment charges 16 people with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana in Lincoln County and Otero County including the Mescalero Apache Reservation between November 2011 and August 2012.

The second indictment charges two defendants, including one charged in the other indictment, with distributing methamphetamine in Otero County between June and November of 2011.

Authorities say six of the 17 suspects were arrested Friday while five others already were in federal custody on related charges.

Four other defendants are in state custody and will be transferred to federal custody. Two defendants remain at large and are considered fugitives.
