Which College Players Are Future Vikings Week 1 Review and Week 2 Primer

The first week of college football is in the books.
I do not think there were any real surprises besides Ohio beating Penn State and Nevada beating Cal.

There were some teams that struggled to win like Stanford with San Jose State, South Carolina with Vanderbilt, Wisconsin with Northern Iowa, and Iowa vs Nortern Illinois. Also, I thought Oklahoma State struggled mightily vs Savannah State. They only best them 84 to zip. Wow! I never will understand why these games are scheduled. It must have been a last minute thing because another team backed out of a game. Otherwise it is a disgrace to schedule a cupcake. And they are not the only ones either.

There a few good games. Virginia Tech vs Georgia Tech, Clemson vs Auburn, Michigan State vs Boise State, and Minnesota vs UNLV.

Obviously USC vs Hawaii was the best game for me. I thought Matt Barkley did well. He had multiple drops by his receivers. Marqise Lee is looking really good. I imagine by the end of the year that people will say he is the best WR on the USC team. I don't think that will be the case but he is awfully good. Robert Woods draws a lot of coverage. I like TJ McDonald a lot of course. I could live with a Harrison Smith and TJ McDonald safety tandem.

I assume that some of you watched your favorite team too and that was the best game.

I am listing some performances of some of the top players below. I might not have them all here so feel free to add a player who you think did really well and may have vaulted themselves up the draft boards.

Which games will you be watching and which players do you think would be great Vikings?

Here is a quick mock after seeing what the final roster and practice squad looks like.
I still think that the Vikings will end up picking about 8th so I am going to use that spot for this mock.

8. Star Lotulelei DT Utah Sr 6-3 320
40. Kenny Vaccaro SS Texas Sr 6-1 218
72. Tavon Austin WR West Virginia Sr 5-09 172
104. Trey Millard FB Oklahoma Jr 6-1 256
120. Graham Pocic C/G Illinois rSr 6-5 310 * from Lions
136. Blidi Wreh-Wilson CB Connecticut rSr 6-1 190
168. Kenneth Tate OLB Maryland rSr 6-4 230
170. Mark Jackson OT Glenville State rSr 6-5 332 * from Titans
200. Ray Ray Armstrong SS/FS Faulkner College Sr 6-3 216

UDFA
1. Brandon Williams DT Missouri Southern State rSr 6-2 328
2. Nicholas Edwards WR Eastern Washington rSr 6-2 200
3. Kenbrell Thompkins WR Cincinnati Sr 6-1 192
4. Tanner Hawkinson OT Kansas rSr 6-5 300
5. Nick Moody LB Florida State rSr 6-2 237
6. Dave Kruger DT Utah rSr 6-5 285
7. Robbie Rouse RB Fresno State Sr 5-7 190
8. Keith Pough LB Southern rSr 6-2 235
9. Marcus Williams CB/FS Nort Dakota State rJr 5-11 195
10. Kejuan Riley FS Alabama State Sr 6-0 206

Obviously, the mock will change throughout the year. But I think that DT has to be high on the list especially with KWill turning 33 next August. You cannot keep playing russian roulette with the defensive line. I really should have doubled up on the defensive line and taken Sharif Floyd in the 3rd round. I also think the LB and S spots need to continually be addressed. I like the safety conversion types in Kenny Tate and Ray-Ray Armstrong.

I know that many posters will be clamoring for a WR next year which is a legitimate concern. But if Jerome Simpson lives up the hype and Wright or someone else steps up then the Vikings may not need to address that spot early. They still have Childs who may or may not come back and they added a couple of big WRs to the practice squad in Gurley and Summers.

I hope that you can watch your team(s) and provide some feedback on players you think that can make it in the NFL!
